Inaccurately Labeled Sushi Exposed by Home DNA Tests
Posted by Tory, August 29, 2008 on 2:06 pm | In Amusements | No CommentsThey found that one-fourth of the fish samples with identifiable DNA were mislabeled. A piece of sushi sold as the luxury treat white tuna turned out to be Mozambique tilapia, a much cheaper fish that is often raised by farming. Roe supposedly from flying fish was actually from smelt. Seven of nine samples that were called red snapper were mislabeled, and they turned out to be anything from Atlantic cod to Acadian redfish, an endangered species.

Moony Epilogue
Posted by Tory, August 28, 2008 on 8:04 pm | In News | 2 CommentsI still need to write the grand tale of my exodus from NC and my arrival in CA, but I have had very important things to do today. Very, very important things. Like read “Fray” and watch The Venture Bros. Nothing like a tasty vacay on a good friend’s couch.
I must confess a stop in Albuquerque pulled out my moony stitches a bit. Some things are gone and won’t come back. That’s life. But the good news is that more good stuff is coming. It always is. Here’s a little Robert Frost up in this piece:
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
Bring on the gold.
Radio Silence
Posted by Tory, August 26, 2008 on 7:58 pm | In News | 1 CommentI am taking a day in Albuquerque before landing in LA tomorrow night. Then I will be back where I usually am — fixed on the computer like Jake on bacon.
Also — Tropic Thunder - I hiiiiiighly recommend it. I’m so proud of Ben Stiller. The Scorcher V trailer was like a Ben Stiller Show sketch plus money - lots and lots of money. I can’t help feeling I had something to do with it.
Everybody be extra good with cheese and I’ll see you soon.
Goodbye, Winston-Salem

Planning vs. OCD
Posted by Tory, August 22, 2008 on 9:21 am | In Amusements, News | 3 CommentsI’m packing up the Jeep to move to LA tomorrow (well, packing tomorrow and moving Sunday). Trying to figure out whether it all would fit.

A-a-a-a-and soft goods go in garbage bags on top to keep it all in place.
Last night I slept on the floor next to this like it was the life-giving rays of the sun.
I knew that all that Tetris wasn’t for nothin’. RUSSIAN MUSIC ROCKET SHIP YAAAAAY!
