Sayings of Pop Pop

So here’s an email from my dad of the potent quotables of his dad, Pop Pop:

On Productivity: Ever time you hammer a nail, that’s payday.

On Productivity, Part Two: If everbody did the best they could all the
time, it still wouldn’t be enough.

On Destiny: A man is just for sweatin` and worryin`.

On Contentment: When that guy’s wife is happy, he’s happy. (About a guy whose house we were working on.)

On Military Retirement: When I`m cleanin` out somebody’s gutter, I don’t tell `em what a big wheel I was in the Navy.

On Military Retirement, Part Two: You need to retire before age catches you.

On Parental Concern: I wish [so-and-so] would gather some moss.

On TV Drama: Is, too. (After Paw Paw Hoke told Pop Pop a guy on
“Gunsmoke” wasn’t really dead after he was killed in a gunfight.)

On Pearl Harbor: Wait until Franklin Roosevelt hears about this.

On Pearl Harbor, Part Two: I was mad for a long time, but I drive a Honda now.
